Therefore, BIS recommends feeding the birds in 2 phases. Introduced by Dr. G.F. Combs in 1960, the stages are called  Phase 1 and Phase 2. This phase-feeding is done in order to adjust the nutrient consumption of birds according to the egg production rate.

Starting from the 21st to the 45th week, this phase is the most critical period. During this stage, the rate of egg production goes up from 0 to (90 – 96) %, which is the peak. Not only do the birds increase in size, but the size of the egg also increases from about 40 g to 56 g. Therefore, the birds are in need of maximum level of nutrients
